Allen Texas Information
Allen was originally home to the Caddo, Comanche tribes dating back to the early 1800’s. Later when the first settlers came into this area of Texas, they arrived in the 1840’s. Allen Texas was established by the Central Texas and Houston railroad in 1872. In February of 1878 a group of outlaws led by Sam Bass carried out the first railroad robbery in Texas. The robbery occurred close to the current intersection of Exchange Parkway and Alma Drive. Allen being a stop along the Texas Traction Company line from Denison to Dallas, grew quickly. Allen has also grown quickly as a US 75 goes right through it to Dallas and other suberbs along US 75 to downtown Dallas. Allen, Plano, Richardson and McKinney all have grown as commuter towns into Dallas’ major business districts.
